Before any of you readers get excited, I'm not pregnant.
I went to the gynae yesterday because I've been experiencing discomfort down there and suspected that I have some sort of infection. So I made an appointment and went.
The first thing they did when I arrived was take my height, weight and blood pressure. Then I waited, and was called into a room for a short interview on medical history and family history since it was my first time at the clinic. Then I waited some more. Finally I was called in to see the doctor. She asked me some questions and then told me to lie down. This is where the gross and slightly painful part begins. To cut the story short, the doctor poked and prodded around in there with an ultrasound to check my ovaries and displayed thee ultrasound image on a monitor above my head so I could look at it. Then she put another camera down there (an actual one this time, not an ultrasound) and proceeded cleaning out the infections and applying medication. I'll spare you the details on this bit. I told my husband and he looked like he was going to faint. Or throw up. Or both.
When the doctor started poking around, the nurse said to relax and not be embarrassed. Not easy when there are four people staring down your privates. Yes. Four. I was practically a case study. The doctor pointed out various things and the nurses were like "ooohh...nampak nampak" and looked very intently at my down there.
Turns out, the infection was a sign of an underlying problem. The doctor said I have hormone imbalance caused by a condition called Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (click here and here for details), so I'll be going back there for tests to confirm if I have PCOS and how to go about treating it and probably more prodding and poking.
I am upset, not because of this condition, but because I've been to three other doctors before this and they all said I have a short cycle. None of them taught to check even though all the signs were already there. This gynaecologist I went to only had to look and she already suspected there was something wrong. Alhamdulillah for the infection which revealed the true problem.
The clinic I went to was PrimaNora at TTDI Plaza. The staff were very friendly, and the place was very comfortable. The waiting area didn't feel anything like a clinic. Most importantly, there was no clinic smell. The doctor was professional and friendly, which makes the patient very comfortable with her. Even with the poking and prodding. All this comfort and good service, however, comes with a price. A heavy price. I almost fainted looking at the bill. That was only for today's treatment and medication, not including the follow up tests and treatments. My bank account will be dry soon. We're going to ask his boss to forego his debts for a while, until this is settled. Hopefully she agrees. The price of health nowadays is very steep. We'll get through it insyaAllah.
Oh...and I have to remain abstinent until the next appointment. Pffffttt.
